There are just some days when you need a shiny new bauble or trinket to make you happy. If that shiny object has a cord and lights up, the happiness quotient increases.

One of the nifty things about our ‘hood is that we love shopping for vintage pieces and bargains–and we share that love. We’ve received urgent phone calls about pieces spied at an estate sale that would look great in our house. There have been text messages to swoop in and pick up a fabulous tchotchke on someones behalf. But we don’t limit ourselves to all things mid-century modern. Send an email out about a amazing alcohol infused non-dairy whipped topping, and it will show up at an event later that evening.

It was a couple months ago that an enabler–er, friend told us about a shop that had some great lamps. Combine that excursion with a mimosa fueled brunch and you have the perfect field trip. We ate. We cocktailed. We shopped. We found a perfect set of lamps. We got sticker shock. Yes there were some fabulous items, but these weren’t bargain basement prices.

Fast forward to today and numerous unfruitful or even more pricey eBay searches later. We happen to be in the area of the lamp shop, slightly dismayed over a Drexel dining room set that was a little too beat up and only had 6 chairs (we really want 8). Lets see if the lamps are still there. If we were meant to have them they will still be there, right? And if we were REALLY meant to have them, the price will have come down too, right?

Woo hoo! They were meant to be! Say hello to our new vintage sputnik lamps:

Now to find a home for the giant “Big Bird” lamps that these replaced………
